Based on our recent experience hiring Bay Area Retrofit for the retrofit of our 2 story home (old house with a 40 year old addition) I highly recommend Howard Cook and Bay Area Retrofit for earthquake retrofits.

Although my initial motivation was getting a discount on earthquake insurance, it became clear, as I checked out providers, that there is a big difference in how safe your home will be, depending on whom you hire.

After my extensive research of the options, Howard Cook stood out, asking lots of questions that went far beyond other providers to make sure he knew what to recommend. I was impressed that he conducts research and education in the field, has been consulted by FEMA and has been involved in earthquake documentaries by KQED.

Bay Area Retrofit is in demand so it took awhile to get our work scheduled, but it was worth the wait as I now feel secure in the quality of the work done.
